Getting to Lehigh

There are multiple options for getting to the conference venue at Lehigh University.

Airports

We highly recommend that conference attendees fly into the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE). The university is a short ten minute drive from ABE. The airport is relatively small, so we recommend booking early!

The two other airports to consider are Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Both airports are approximately a 90 minute drive from Lehigh. We recommend renting a car to travel between these airports and Lehigh (see below). Alternatively, we plan to offer free limited bus service (see below) between these airports and Lehigh University on Sunday July 24, Thursday July 28, and Friday July 29. Overall, we highly recommend flying into ABE, if possible.  The second preferred option is EWR, since this airport has more flight options and additional public bus service options.

Rental Cars

For participants who fly into EWR or PHL, we highly recommend renting a car and/or coordinating with a friend or colleague who is renting a car. This is a preferred option for getting to Lehigh from EWR and PHL, and is helpful for getting around the Bethlehem area. Parking will be made available at the conference venue during conference hours.

Taxis and Ride-Share Services

Taxis and ride-share services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) can be taken from ABE, EWR, and PHL to/from the conference venue.  The drive to/from ABE is approximately 10 minutes to the conference venue and area hotels.  The drive to/from EWR and PHL is approximately 90 minutes to the conference venue and area hotels.  We have been monitoring the prices for ride-shares to/from EWR and PHL during Summer 2022 and have found them to be variable in the range of $100 to $200 depending on day of the week, time, and demand.

Public Buses

Participants flying into EWR can use the Trans-Bridge Lines bus service to be transported to ABE. From there, a taxi or ride-share service may be used to complete the short 10 minute journey from ABE to Lehigh University. Please visit the website above for details about the Trans-Bridge Lines services as we are unable to provide any help concerning their prices, schedules, etc.

Conference-Arranged Buses

The conference will provide free limited bus service from EWR and PHL on Sunday July 24 and to EWR and PHL on Thursday July 28 and Friday July 29.  A conference participant must show an identification card (e.g., passport or driver’s license), registration confirmation email, or conference name badge to gain access to a bus.  These buses will leave at prespecified times from prespecified locations and will not be able to accommodate any individual’s specific travel plans.  Each departure time corresponds to one bus with a capacity of 55 people.  If a conference participant is unable to board a bus at one of these prespecified times or locations, then he or she is responsible for their own transportation by rental car, taxi, ride-share service, etc.  The bus departure times and locations are as follows.

Sunday July 24:

  • EWR

If a rider is staying at a different hotel or other accommodation, then that rider is responsible for determining at which hotel to get off the bus.  The buses will not make other stops besides at the above hotels.  Ride-share services (Uber or Lyft) can be used for local transportation within Bethlehem, if needed.
